xRDP

How to install RDP (Remote Desktop) on a Linux box

cd /root
make
make install
cp /usr/local/xrdp/xrdp_control.sh /etc/rc.d/init.d/xrdpd
chkconfig –level 35 xrdpd on
service xrdpd start

Connect to the server using mstsc. I’ve tested it on Fedora Core 3 and CentOS 5.3 x64 so I assume it will work on everything in between. Works better than VNC.

2012

2012

Good flick. I went into it knowing the runlength, I’d heard mixed reviews from people, and I wasn’t set on the actors in the show, but I was quite surprised.  The CGI in the movie is incredible and more than made up for the acting. The plot was solid and the movie should make back it’s cost because not everyone understands what 12/21/2012 is all about. Now I’m going back into my bunker because I’ll never have 1 Billion Euro.

Another Ho-Hum Day

Not much new lately, found another bone in a piece of food. It happens about every other week to me. Yesterday it was a Hardee’s Hot Ham-n-Cheese. Go figure what a bone was doing in there. This one was pretty big, probably a 1/4″  x 1/4″.  I’d take a picture, but the iPhone camera is the suck.

Cool Tool of the Day

Ok, so you’ve done you search for files in Windows when you realize you can’t save or export the results. Infuriating, I know. Here’s the info on SysExporter, right from their site:

SysExporter utility allows you to grab the data stored in standard list-views, tree-views, list boxes, combo boxes, text-boxes, and WebBrowser/HTML controls from almost any application running on your system, and export it to text, HTML or XML file.

Run your search, then run SysExporter and go through the “Search Results” options is finds in memory (for me the actual Results were the last option) and then save your results. Very cool application, highly recommended if only for this one feature. Check it out: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/sysexp.html

Add Boot Delay to VMware Virtual Machine

If you’re like me then you hate it when you have to either go into the BIOS of a VM or make it boot to a CD. You’re given so little time to press the ‘F2’ or ‘ESC’ keys that it invariably takes you several times to actually do so successfully. I found this line to add to your VMX file so you can give yourself more time.

bios.bootdelay = “3000”

In this instance I’m telling it to wait 3 seconds before booting the VM. My life is instantly easier.

Christmas in September?

WTH Bobby? A local radio station has been playing Christmas music this week. It’s not even October yet!

Intel’s funny

They can fix this:

[Fix] Intel® Server System S7000FC4UR SAS riser with an iBBU may
not keep cache data valid during a power failure

But not this:

[No Fix] Date in System Event Log (SEL) is one day ahead

Shakira on the America’s Got Talent Finale

Holy lip synching Batman! It took exactly one second to figure it out. She was moving her lips before the first words even started. Good thing they turned her mic on when she was interviewed.

FOX Fantasy Sports is whacked.

Forget that it takes two days to get an email back from support.
Forget that they disconnected their phone support line.
Forget that they had scoring so ridiculously screwed up for the first games.
Forget that about 10% of people who know what they’re doing can’t get logged in and back to their league because they can’t design a site worth a crap.

They obviously have no idea how to work timestamps as well.

And lastly, forget that I can’t type “to go”.
